On this particular tour, your guide is an expert on Bergerac wines.
What type of wine is Bergerac?
The Bergerac wine region is located in the South West part of France in the Dordogne area. The wine region is composed of 17 appellations of which the most famous are Bergerac, Pécharmant, Duras or Monbazillac. Our Dordogne wine tour will focus on the Bergerac and Pécharmant appellations. Bergerac wines can be red, white or rosé. The grape varieties used for Bergerac wines are similar to those that can be found in neighbouring Bordeaux and this is especially true for Merlot that is more widely planted than the Cabernet's.
Pécharmant wines are red wines that are ripe and robust made from a similar blend as in Bordeaux the four authorized grape varieties being Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Cot and Merlot. Due to a 'terroir' made up of sand, gravel and deep clay known as 'Tran', the wines have a very specific taste. They are strong, generous with intense aromas and can be laid down for a few years.
Can we choose which wineries we will visit on your Dordogne private wine tours?
