Nestled in the heart of France's Sologne region, King Francis 1 (François 1er) commissioned the construction of Château de Chambord in the early 16th century as a hunting lodge. Although not intended as a permanent residence, this architectural masterpiece exemplifies the Italian Renaissance style, reflecting the king's ambition to impress foreign dignitaries and showcase his power.

The castle features a central keep surrounded by four majestic bastion towers. With over 440 rooms, 282 fireplaces, and 84 staircases, Chambord is an architectural marvel. Its iconic double helix staircase, believed to be inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, serves as the castle's central axis. Ascending three floors without ever meeting, the two helices are illuminated from above by a lighthouse-like structure at the highest point of the chateau. Don't miss the opportunity to marvel at the intricate masonry work and the ornate roof, which distinguishes Château de Chambord.

Although King Francis 1 never saw the completion of the castle, it was finished during the reign of King Louis XIV (the Sun King). Due to its sheer size, maintaining Château de Chambord has been a challenge over the years. After passing through various owners, it was eventually acquired by the French State in 1930, becoming its sole owner.
