[name] => Alsace's Finest: Private Grands Crus Wine Tour from Mulhouse
[durationMinutes] => 480
[minimumNoticeMinutes] => 41760
[shortDescription] => Sample Famed and Delicious Alsace Wines on this small group private Alsace Grands Crus Wine Tour. Follow the Alsace Wine Route, visit vineyards and taste local Grands Crus Rieslings, Muscat, Sylvaner or Gewurztraminer white wines.
[description] =>
In the morning, we will come and pick you up at your centrally located hotel or accommodation in Mulhouse. Meet your English speaking driver guide who will go over the program and itinerary of this private full day Alsace wine tour from Colmar. Then, board your air conditioned vehicle and begin to make your way to the alsace vineyards. Alsatian wines, and more specifically the Grands Crus, are considered to be among the most delicious french wines.
Three Commented Grands Crus Wine Tastings
The Grand Crus of Alsace were created in 1975 and feature 51 classified areas defined according to strict geological and climatic criteria. The designation is attributed to wines satisfying a number of quality-related criteria: strict limitations on terroir, highly restricted yields, specific rules of conduct regarding the vines, minimal natural ripeness levels and taste . The appellation Alsace Grand Cru recognizes the most exceptional terroirs, which impart to the wines an expressive character and a unique authenticity. The size of these exceptional vineyards varies between 3 and 80 hectares. Only 4 grape varieties can be used to produce Alsace Grands Crus wines: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat (Alsace variety). Discover these unique Grands Crus wines during an exceptional day out in the Alsace wine region.

This private full day wine tour has been crafted so that you may have the privilege of tasting some of the most outstanding Alsace white wines. Your wine tour in Alsace will first take you to the Ribeauvillé wine producing region. Here, taste fabulous Rieslings that originate from the Kirchberg (marl and sandstone), Geisberg (marly limestone) and Osterberg (calcareous marl)Grands Crus. The hallmark of Ribeauvillé wines is their minerality. In fact, while most Grand Cru Rieslings have 1.5 g solids/liter, Ribeauvillé wines often reach 2.5 g/liter. Some of the most famous wine makers that produce these Grands Crus include Trimbach or Louis Sipp.

Then, move on to discover a most unique and confidential Grand Cru: Kaefferkopf (literally ‘beetle head’). Divided into several sectors of the charming little town of Ammerschwihr, this Grand Cru is characterized by a complex geological substratum, combining granite on its upper parts with shelly limestone and sandstone lower down. Depending on availability, it will also be the moment to discover biodynamic wine making (a form of alternative agriculture very similar to organic farming, but which includes various esoteric concepts) in wineries such as Domaine de Weinbach or Domaine JB Adam.

Finally reach the southern part of the Alsace wine route and discover emblematic Grands Crus such as Steinart, Goldert or Hatschbourg. It is in this part of the wine region that you will discover local Muscat. Alsace Muscat is distinguished from the sweet Muscats of the South of France by its dry character. Extremely aromatic, it expresses wonderful flavors of fresh fruit. We will also have you taste some exceptional Gerwurtztraminers that originate in the Hatschbourg Grand Cru. These are full-bodied wine, with solid structure and a round fullness. In tasting these wines, one rediscovers the complete aromatic palette, often with the addition of liquorice. Harvested very ripe, “late harvest” and “Selection de Grains Nobles” Gewurztraminers ranging from sweet to viscous, possess exceptional richness and extraordinary aromatic complexity.

This full day private tour is also adapted to travelers that wish to take in the best of the Alsace region as we will cross many beautiful villages and your driver guide will always have a few words about the traditions and culture of Alsace. We also organise other wine tours that are more an introduction to the wines of Alsace and that include tastings of other grape varieties such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.

[description] =>
Pick up at Train station, Hotel or Airbnb in Mulhouse

Today we will come and pick you up at your hotel or accommodation in Mulhouse.

Meet your English speaking local guide, expert of the Black Forest destination

In the morning, meet your English speaking guide who is an expert on Alsace and the Black Forest and who will go over the itinerary and program with you. Then, board your spacious, comfortable, air conditioned minivan and begin to make your way to Freiburg im Breisgau in the Black Forest.

Travel in a spacious Mercedes Minivan

Your private Tour will take place in one of our very spacious Mercedes Minivans. This vehicle can take up to 8 persons normally but on this occasion, the vehicle will only be for you. This allows you to choose the seat that you think best in terms of social distancing while still enjoying the information passed on by your guide.

All our vehicles are equipped with an on board P/A system that allows you to hear the commentary of your driver/guide no matter where you are seated. Also, there is free Wi-Fi access on all tour vehicles. Bottled water is also available in all our vehicles.

Depart for Freiburg, Germany

Leave the Alsace region on this full day tour and head towards southern Germany. Discover the University town of Freiburg, a town known for its ancient university and its medieval minster (Cathedral), for its cobbled plazas, its high standard of living and advanced environmental practices. This medieval town is situated in the heart of a major wine-growing region and is the primary entry point to the scenic beauty of the Black Forest.

This morning, follow your guide on a walking tour to discover all the main monuments and sights of the town. You will then have a short time to explore and tour the city on your own.

The town has more to offer than friendly faces alone, including one of Germany’s prettiest old quarters, with its characteristic Bächle – the narrow channels of water that run alongside the pavements. The historic city center is where the town hall is located. Dating back from the middle ages, the town Hall Square is where the statue of Berthold Schwarz is located – a Franciscan Monk who is said to have invented gunpowder circa 1350.

This is also one of the squares where the annual Christmas Market takes place. The town is also home to a number of beer gardens and famous breweries such as the feierling brewery. Another attraction to visit is the remaining city gates the only testimony left from the Middle Ages. Close to the tourist office is the Augustinian Museum that dates back to the 13th century.

Add to that a wealth of culture and history, lots of cafés and cosy bars, delicious regional food and scenic surroundings.

Then a trip through the Black Forest

After some free time for personal discovery and lunch at your own expense, your day tour from Colmar will head towards the scenic route of the Black Forest.

The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters (4,898 feet). The name Black Forest comes from the general dark color of the numerous pine trees that grow in this region. The Black Forest cake and the cuckoo clocks originate from this region.

The most popular destination of Germany, drive through surprising landscapes with spruce forest in the North, Vines in the central area and lakes and mountain peaks in the south. Follow the scenic route of the Black Forest passing small quaint mountain villages that border one of the most beautiful lakes of the area

The Black Forest is also known to have been the setting for the Brother Grimm Fairy tale of Hansel & Gretel. This is also the birthplace of the world renowned cuckoo clocks. During the day your guide will make different stops so that you can make the best out of this attractive destination.

You might also want to try the local food such as the cured meats or the world-famous Black Forest cake that leaves nobody indifferent!

If you are interested in the local wines produced here, it is possible for us to organize a wine tasting session in a carefully selected winery of the area. You can also ask your guide who can arrange for a wine tasting during the day if you inform him in the morning.

After the tour, return to Mulhouse.

[shortDescription] => The Essential One Day Experience of Alsace. From Mulhouse, follow a small group private day trip to visit charming Colmar and the Alsace villages such as Riquewihr. Follow the Alsace wine route and visit mighty Haut Koenigsbourg castle.
[description] =>
Private Sightseeing Excursion through the Alsace region

This highly recommended full day tour has been carefully designed for travelers that wish to get the most out of their stay here in Alsace. The Pearls of Alsace tour combines what we believe are the most essential visits that one must make while in the region. It includes the visits of towns, monuments, small traditional villages and historical landmarks.

In the morning we will come and pick you up at your centrally located accommodation in Mulhouse. Meet your English speaking driver/guide who will go over the program and itinerary of the day with you. Then board your air conditioned vehicle and depart for a full day tour that includes the highlights of the Alsace region.

Discover exquisite Colmar

First, make your way to the beautiful town of Colmar. Upon arrival, follow your guide on a walking tour of one of the most beautiful small towns of France. Discover the charm of the old town, its prestigious monuments, the Pfister house, the Koïfhus, Saint Martin collegiate church, and the picturesque neighborhoods of small Venice or of the tanners.

Visit Eguisheim village

Then depart for the most beautiful village of Eguisheim, located on the Alsace wine route. Surrounded by vineyards, the narrow and concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated with flowers. After a walk in the village your tour then continues on to the beautiful town of Riquewihr.

Visit Riquewihr and time for lunch

Surrounded by ramparts, the village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16C splendor virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Free time for personal discovery and lunch.

Enjoy great Panoramic Views along the Alsace Wine Route

Located between the Rhine valley and the Vosges mountain range, the 60 year old route winds across the slopes for more than 170 kms. The itinerary leads across rows of undulating, vine covered hills, and through quaint villages with narrow streets and charming flower decked houses clustered around the local church steeple.

Visit the Mighty Castle of Haut Koenigsbourg

Finally, reach Haut Koenigsbourg castle. Here, follow your excellent guide for a tour of this mighty fortress that overlooks the valley.
