Full‑Day D‑Day Shore Excursion from Cherbourg Embark on a full‑day shore excursion from Cherbourg and step into the story of the D‑Day landings in Normandy. From the moment you meet your guide at the cruise terminal, your day is devoted to understanding what happened here on 6 June 1944 and how these quiet beaches became the stage for one of the most decisive operations of the Second World War.
American landing beaches and battlefields Travel by air‑conditioned vehicle along the Normandy coastline to the key American landing sectors, where your guide brings the events of Omaha and Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc and the surrounding battlefields to life with clear, human‑focused explanations. As you walk the sand and look up at the cliffs, you hear stories of soldiers, commanders and local civilians whose courage shaped the outcome of the war, with time for both questions and quiet reflection.
Normandy American Cemetery and remembrance One of the most moving moments of the day is the visit to the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville‑sur‑Mer, where rows of white crosses and Stars of David overlook the sea. Here you can pause to pay your respects, read the names and take in the scale of the sacrifice made to liberate Europe, often made even more poignant by the personal stories and anecdotes shared by your guide.
Additional historic sites along the coast Depending on timings and your interests, the itinerary can also include stops in emblematic places such as Sainte‑Mère‑Église or sections of the former German defenses along the Atlantic Wall. These visits give you a broader picture of the invasion, from airborne operations and civilian life under occupation to the long months that followed D‑Day.
Small‑group comfort and flexibility This is a small‑group tour, typically limited to around eight participants, which keeps the experience personal and allows your guide to adapt the day to your pace and interests. Throughout, you travel in a comfortable, air‑conditioned vehicle and are brought back directly to your ship in Cherbourg at the end of the day, with all logistics handled so you can focus fully on the significance of what you are seeing.

Roy & Lisa Smith30, Aug 2024I was actually looking forward to an opportunity to speak of our tours! They were both FANTASTIC! The drivers (especially Matt on the Normandy tour) were both very professional, good drivers….extremely polite and helpful…Their knowledge was second to none (I kept teasing them about being ‘walking encyclopedias’ (you’re probably too young to remember what those are

Richard Mattern 28, Apr 2024Alice, thank you for the opportunity to comment on our D-Day experience. This was by fare one of the best tours I have ever been on. From you and your office team attention to detail and outstanding communications before the tour to this request for follow up. Your team did a great job!! I can’t say enough about Matt. His knowledge and love of the subject was amazing. Not only did he give his great presentations but he listened to our questions and requests and tailored his remarks to be sure to respond to our requests. He is truly a one of a kind tour guide. Your Company is very fortunate to have him. Great accommodations and comfort. Rating A+++. Thank you again for all your coordination.

N/A16, May 2022I joined a group that went to Mt Saint Michel with Ophorus and that was probably the best tour we went on for this cruise!!! On time start, organized, everyone returned on time, and our tour guide was amazing with tons of knowledge that made the day great!!! I’m looking to join with groups like these again.

Nancy16, Nov 2021Our tour of Normandy was fabulous. Stephen made the events of D-Day come alive for us. My husband said it was the best history teaching he has ever experienced. Bravo! We could not be more pleased.

Roy_B08, Sep 2021We enjoyed a comfortable van ride from Bayeux to Mont Saint-Michel. Our guide led us on a tour all the way up to the abbey and through its many rooms and chapels. Along the way, he gave us a thorough overview of the history and many interesting details. The views are phenomenal! After we exited at the top, we had about 2.5 hours of free time to explore on our own and have lunch. Although the abbey is well worth the visit, the street on the way up and down is lined with overpriced, low quality souvenir shops and restaurants (all similar items and similar menus) which kind of diminished the historical mood/value of the abbey.
Be aware that you must have good mobility and have a good sense of balance for this tour-lots of uneven cobblestone, steps, and pavement. It’s a workout, Overall, still a must do and well worth the visit.

Epmurc15, Jun 2021Our guide for the day was Yannick. You can tell when someone is just doing this sort of thing for a job or when they are really passionate about it......Yannick most definitely falls into the latter category. The tour was well put together with a really neat finish to it and I can't think of a single time Yannick was asked a question he didn't have an answer to. You'll not regret spending the day with him
