This private half-day tour is designed exclusively for two — a focused, intimate introduction to the Saint-Émilion appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank, without the compromise of a shared group experience. In four hours, you will visit a prestigious Grand Cru estate, explore the medieval village with your guide, and taste wines that have made this corner of Bordeaux world-famous.
Saint-Émilion: The Right Bank at Its Most Beautiful
The Saint-Émilion appellation sits on a limestone plateau above the Dordogne valley, approximately 40 kilometres east of Bordeaux. Its soils — a blend of limestone, clay, and ancient sand — favour Merlot and Cabernet Franc, producing wines of remarkable richness and elegance that differ fundamentally in style from the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated estates of the Left Bank. The medieval village of Saint-Émilion itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved in all of southwest France, with its cobbled streets, Romanesque church, underground monolithic cave church, and sweeping views over the vines.
A Grand Cru Estate Visit and Tasting
Your tour includes a private visit to a Grand Cru estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Your guide will walk you through the vineyard and cellar, explaining the estate's history, its approach to viticulture, and the decisions behind each wine in the range. The visit ends with a guided tasting — structured to help you understand how the terroir, the vintage, and the winemaking style come together in the glass.
After the château visit, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the village of Saint-Émilion, sharing its history and pointing out the architectural and cultural highlights that most visitors miss when they explore independently.

Loch C.27, Apr 2024Our tour guide for Bordeaux region wineries on Sept 2 was Julie, and we want you to know she did an outstanding job. She is very knowledgeable about wine from terroir to bouquet, as well as history. And, she is very personable and professional. Your company is fortunate to have her.

Quick answers
Do you organize pick up and return at accommodation for Bordeaux private tours?
Yes, absolutely. We will come and pick you up at your hotel, accommodation or AirBnB in Bordeaux. If your accommodation is not accessible by car (pedestrian zone in historical city center) then we will suggest the closest possible meeting point
What type of vehicles are used during a private Bordeaux wine tour?
Our company uses only premium cars & minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows and large leg space.
Who conducts these Bordeaux Private Wine tours?
We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on. In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines.
What is there to see & do in Saint Emilion?
History is alive and well, and very visible on any visit to Saint Emilion today. First, don’t miss the impressive Romanesque church, in the heart of the old town. The streets and buildings constituting Saint Emilion medieval village are some of the few surviving examples of a traditional hilltop village near Bordeaux. Largely intact despite the passing centuries, walking through the village literally feels like going back in time.
Walking up the narrow winding streets, you will come to several superb vantage points, which offer sweeping views over the Dordogne Valley. But the village of St Emilion’s main historical attraction is underground. Beneath the village, lies a network of tunnels covering more than 120 miles. These tunnels are left over from the many quarries that were exploited until the 19th century to supply stone that was used to build villages, towns and cities such as Bordeaux.
Can we choose which wineries we will visit on your Saint Emilion half day trip from Bordeaux?
Yes, we will be happy to make the pre-bookings for your winery tours of Saint Emilion. Please note that most wineries open their doors to visitors but some high end wineries such as Cheval Blanc, Petrus, Ausone and a few others do not welcome any visitors. Also, it is important to mention that we only make the required Chateau reservations once you have booked your tour with Ophorus.
Are the Winery Tours private in Bordeaux?
Yes, we do our best to privatize the wine tasting sessions during our Private Bordeaux Wine tours such as this one. This means that you will follow a private visit of the winery, followed by a private commented wine tasting session.
How many / much wines are served in the Wineries?
In Bordeaux, the Wineries will typically serve 1 to 3 wines during the tasting sessions. It is always the wine produced by the chateau that will be tasted. Usually the first and second wine of the estate.
Important note: For all our guests who have experienced wine tours in other countries, please note that the average pour of wine in Bordeaux is less important than in other destinations. Even though we strive to work with Wineries that are more generous, they remain the only ones that can determine the quantity of wine poured in a glass.
Is this Private Half Day Bordeaux Wine Tour only available in English?
No, our talented, in-house multi lingual guides will be happy to conduct the tour in French, Spanish, German, Italian. Just ask for availability.
