Luberon Villages Tour from Aix-en-Provence: Hilltop Charms, Olive Oil & Calissons
A full-day Provençal escape from Aix-en-Provence
Meet your guide in the morning at the Aix-en-Provence Tourist Office and set off towards the Luberon Regional Natural Park in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Your small-group format allows for a relaxed pace, photo stops, and personalized commentary on local history, landscapes, and gastronomy.
Discover the hilltop village of Gordes
Your first stop is Gordes, officially classified among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” Perched above the valley, the village offers breathtaking views over the Luberon and the stone-roofed houses that tumble down the hillside. Wander along narrow cobbled streets, admire the church and castle, and soak in the quintessential Provençal atmosphere.
(Depending on season and local conditions, you may also stop for a photo opportunity near the Cistercian Abbey of Sénanque, surrounded by lavender fields in summer.)
Free time for lunch
Around midday, enjoy free time for lunch in one of the villages or nearby (at your own expense). Your guide will be happy to suggest cafés or bistros featuring regional specialties and seasonal products.
Visit Lourmarin, a literary and cultural gem
In the afternoon, continue to Lourmarin, another village listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France,” known for its Renaissance château, shaded squares, and art galleries. Stroll through narrow streets lined with cafés and boutiques, admire the elegant façades, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that has inspired many writers and artists. Depending on opening times and your interests, you may choose to visit the château or simply explore the village at your own pace (entrance fees not included).
Monday–Saturday: Olive oil mill visit and tasting
From Monday to Saturday, your day also includes a visit to a local olive oil mill in the Luberon area. There, you discover the different stages of olive oil production, from the grove to the press, and learn how traditional methods meet modern techniques. A guided tasting allows you to compare several oils, identify their aromas, and better understand how to pair them with Provençal cuisine.
Sunday: Calisson Museum at Confiserie du Roy René
On Sundays, instead of the olive oil mill, your experience includes a stop at the Musée du Calisson at Confiserie du Roy René, on the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence. In this gourmet museum, you follow an immersive journey through almond orchards, nougat and Calisson d’Aix production, and historic confectionery tools, with exhibits that blend tradition and modern multimedia. You have time to explore the museum at your own pace and, if you wish, purchase calissons and other sweets in the boutique.
At the end of the afternoon, you return to Aix-en-Provence with a deeper appreciation of the Luberon’s villages, landscapes, and local flavors.

Lay30, Sep 2025We had a great experience at villages of Luberon with tour guide Alex who is articulate and knowledgeable on the history and culture of Europe. It was our first trip to the village and mesmerised with the countryside and scenic views. We would recommend Alex with his vast experience and service level.

Christina17, Sep 2025All 3 villages were beautiful. The views from Gordes were my favorite. It was breathtaking to see the village from the viewpoint. There was enough time in each village to wonder a bit and get a sample of the village. Morgan was a great guide.

Alexis06, Jul 2025Our guide, Camille, was very energetic and personable. I wouldn't have missed Senanque Abbey and could have a little more time there. It was the day's highlight.

Edward G01, Jun 2024Beautiful villages visited. Loved the Ochre path - wasn't sure what to expect but surpassed our expectations. Our guide Camille was flexible and gave us choices for how long to spend in each place. It was fast paced but had just enough time at each village to see what we needed to see

Carol18, Sep 2023It was a great joy to see these gorgeous villages that I believe are difficult to access without a car. Lucille was very well informed, and also helpful and kind. The air-conditioned bus helped during the warm spells. Highly recommend if you can afford it!

Russ Emmons18, Jul 2023I was lucky to have Caroline as my guide for three days in a row on separate tours. The first was a day trip to Cassis—what a lovely experience! The second trip was to the Luberon villages, and the third was a full day visit to Chateauneuf-du-Papes. I really enjoyed each one of these visits—just the right amount of “guided tour” and “self exploration”.
Caroline was funny, enthusiastic, and super knowledgeable. Fully-packed days, well designed. Enthusiastically recommended!

Susan22, May 2023Our guide Caroline was wonderful. She was fun and informative. She took care that we saw a lot and were comfortable. She created an excellent tour. Susan and George

Bruce Stacy28, Sep 2022We went on this Luberon Villages Olive Oil tour on Sept 28. Beautiful day but windy. Thomas was an excellent and knowledgeable guide and made it interesting. Both towns were interesting and historic. The wine tasting was excellent. We definitely recommend this activity

CarolynF3525, Sep 2022This tour is delightful. We visited two little villages in the Luberon, enjoyed beautiful countrysides and learned so much while tasting incredible olive oil. I had tasted olive oil in Portugal and this was so so so much better! The farm and factory we visited makes approx 9 very different types of oil. The tasting process was very very well explained and I decided that olive oil for me should be a condiment. Lucille was our tour leader and made the trip so very very delightful . I highly recommend her and this unique tour.
