Enjoy Local Specialties and an Array of Tantalizing Champagne
Come with us on a small group Champagne tour departing from Reims and blend the historical beauty of Reims with Champagne winery visits.
Explore Reims, the historic city known for its coronations. Your day kicks off with a tour of the lively City Centre, brimming with charm, layers of fascinating history, and tantalizing regional cuisine.
Visit & wine tasting at Grande Maison Veuve Clicquot
You will start this exclusive Champagne tour with a morning in the main city of the region, Reims. The first stop will be the Grande Maison de Champagne Veuve Clicquot. This champagne winery was founded in 1772 and now produces the world-famous Brut Yellow Label, among other champagnes.
While at the winery, learn from your English-speaking guide how champagne is made from the grape to the bottle. Admire how champagne is then matured in cellars that have been carved and wrought centuries ago. At the end of the tour, indulge in some champagne tasting and buy your favorite bottle to bring home.
* Please be informed that according to availability Veuve Clicquot could be replaced by Mumm or Pommery on certain dates.
Guided tour of the Cathedral of Reims
Start with the cathedral Notre Dame de Reims, a Gothic jewel listed as a UNESCO World Heritage monument. Admire the beautiful stained glass work and revel at the rich statuary work inside the cathedral.
Since the Middle Ages, the Reims cathedral was the place where the French Kings came to be crowned. All but two Kings of France were actually crowned here! Follow your accredited guide for a comprehensive visit of what is considered to be one of the most beautiful cathedrals of France.
Lunch in Reims
Indulge in a friendly lunch at a nearby restaurant, featuring a delicious main course and tempting dessert.
Reims Mountain Grand Cru Vineyards
Then we'll leave the city and drive through the Grand Cru vineyards on the Mountain of Reims, where the Scenic Route of Champagne winds its way between fields of barley, vineyards, forests and picturesque villages such as Verzy, Verzenay and Mailly. Realm of the Pinot Noir varietal, the Mountain of Reims is known for its special "terroir" that gives Champagne much of its power and character. We'll take a tranquil, picturesque pause in such a vineyard to take it all in with our own five senses.
The Marne Valley Vineyards
Thanks to its specific soil and subsoil, the Marne Valley landscape has been shaped for centuries with vineyards. Planted mainly with Pinot Meunier, the vineyards owe their rapid expansion to the River Marne, which was the main trading route at the time and offered good conditions for transporting the wine.
Our final stop will be at a smaller family estate. You will discover another side of the champagne making business, operating on a much smaller scale than Möet & Chandon and other big estates. Learn how champagne is traditionally made and try some vintages you have never tasted before. An authentic, small batch champagne coming straight from the Champagne region makes a great souvenir from a trip to France, or a gift that family and friends will love.
