Departing from Rouen Cruise Port, this full‑day private shore excursion takes you to the magnificent Palace of Versailles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of France’s most spectacular royal residences.
Your day begins with pick up directly at your cruise ship in Rouen. Your English‑speaking driver/guide will be waiting outside the terminal with a sign bearing the lead traveler’s name. After introductions and a brief overview of the day’s itinerary, settle into your air‑conditioned minivan and begin the 1.5–2 hour drive to Versailles, with a comfort stop en route if desired.
On arrival, admire the grand façade and vast courtyards of Versailles before your guide leads you to the entrance. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, the château evolved from a hunting lodge built by Louis XIII into a lavish palace under Louis XIV, the Sun King, and remained the residence of the French monarchy until the reign of Louis XVI.
With your pre‑booked passport ticket (included), begin your visit of the palace. Follow your guide through key rooms such as the State Apartments, the King’s and Queen’s apartments, and the Hall of Mirrors while learning about court life, royal ceremonies, and the symbolism behind the décor and architecture.
After the guided section, you are free to explore more of the estate at your own pace. Your passport ticket gives access to the gardens and park, the Estate of Trianon (Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet), temporary exhibitions, the Gallery of Coaches on weekends, and, on selected days, the Musical Gardens or Musical Fountains Show. Your guide will help you prioritise what to see based on your interests and the time available.
At the agreed time, meet your driver and relax on the journey back to Rouen. You will be dropped off at your ship in time for departure. This private tour accommodates up to 8 guests per minivan and can be customized; if you wish to adjust the balance between palace, gardens, and Trianon, or add an extra short stop en route, simply let us know in advance so the day can be tailored to your preferences.
