Château Cos d'Estournel holds a special place in the Bordeaux wine region. It was one of the first estates to bottle, label and sell its own wines, and quickly earned a stellar reputation, becoming a Second Classified Growth in the 1855 Médoc classification. Its founder, Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, was fascinated by India, where his wines were exported, and this passion inspired the estate’s iconic pagodas and monumental carved gate, blending exotic influences with local limestone architecture.
After the visit, enjoy an exclusive tasting of 6 wines from the estate. Begin with a vintage of Pagodes de Cos, then savor 4 different vintages of Château Cos d'Estournel and one vintage of Cos d'Estournel white. Pagodes de Cos, the second wine of the estate, is crafted from younger vines but vinified and aged with the same care as the grand vin, often offering an elegant, full‑bodied, aromatic profile. The red Château Cos d'Estournel, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, is a powerful yet refined wine built for long ageing, while the white Cos d'Estournel, from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, is typically rich, exotic and beautifully balanced.
After your visit and tasting at Château Cos d'Estournel, enjoy free time for lunch in Saint‑Estèphe or nearby. On request, we can reserve a table for you at La Maison d’Estournel, a charming country‑house hotel and restaurant set in the heart of the vineyards, where you can savor refined, seasonal cuisine showcasing the best produce of the South‑West. Lunch is not included in the tour price and is payable directly at the restaurant, subject to availability.
