Roy_B 08, Sep 2021 We enjoyed a comfortable van ride from Bayeux to Mont Saint-Michel. Our guide led us on a tour all the way up to the abbey and through its many rooms and chapels. Along the way, he gave us a thorough overview of the history and many interesting details. The views are phenomenal! After we exited at the top, we had about 2.5 hours of free time to explore on our own and have lunch.

Although the abbey is well worth the visit, the street on the way up and down is lined with overpriced, low quality souvenir shops and restaurants (all similar items and similar menus) which kind of diminished the historical mood/value of the abbey.

Our van ride back to Bayeux was quite comfortable especially since we were hot and tired from the many steps up and down. Be aware that you must have good mobility and have a good sense of balance for this tour-lots of uneven cobblestone, steps, and pavement. It’s a workout, Overall, still a must do and well worth the visit.

How difficult is it to reach Mont Saint Michel Abbey?

Mont Saint Michel as the name points out, is a mount and the Abbey is located at the top of the Mount! There are roughly 350 stairs that you will need to climb to reach the Abbey - around 200 stairs are in the village itself and the remaining 150 are within the Abbey. Therefore, if you have reduced mobility then the safer option is to stay in the village. This tour is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
How long is the drive from Bayeux to Mont Saint Michel?

From Bayeux, to reach Mont Saint Michel, it will take just over one hour and a half. During the driving time, your guide will speak to you about the history and culture of the Normandy region. All our vehicles are equipped with a P/A system that allows our guides to safely make commentaries during driving time. The good thing is, everyone can hear no matter where you are seated.
Will we have some free time for personal discovery of Mont Saint Michel?

Yes, after the morning guided visit of the Abbey, the rest of your time at the Mont Saint Michel is for you to enjoy. You can either stay a bit more at the top of the Mount or decide to make your way back down slowly. On your way, don't hesitate to take some of the smaller side streets that are less crowded and that can lead to some stunning views over the Bay.
