Discover the Essence of the Alsace Wine Route Stretching along the eastern foothills of the Vosges Mountains, the Alsace Wine Route is one of France’s most scenic and distinctive wine regions. Vineyards unfold across gentle hillsides dotted with medieval villages, flower-filled streets, and centuries-old estates where winemaking traditions have been carefully preserved for generations.
Departing from Colmar, this full-day small-group experience invites you to explore the region at a relaxed pace, combining exceptional wines, cultural discovery, and breathtaking landscapes. Traveling in a comfortable premium minivan with an expert English-speaking driver-guide, you gain insight into both the history and the living traditions that shape Alsace today.
A Wine Region Defined by Terroir and Tradition Unlike other French wine regions dominated by blends, Alsace is celebrated for its expressive single-varietal wines. Throughout the day, you will discover how geography, climate, and soil influence iconic grapes such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat.
Visits to carefully selected wineries introduce you to passionate local producers who share their expertise during guided tastings. These encounters provide more than simple wine sampling — they offer a deeper understanding of craftsmanship, family heritage, and the unique character of Alsace wines.
Each tasting reveals how subtle differences in terroir create remarkable diversity within a relatively small region, making Alsace one of the most fascinating wine destinations in France.
Scenic Villages and Authentic Encounters Beyond the vineyards, the Alsace Wine Route is renowned for its remarkably preserved villages. Half-timbered houses, colorful facades, and cobblestone streets create an atmosphere that feels almost timeless.
During the day, you will pause in one of these picturesque villages, allowing time to stroll, explore local shops, or enjoy lunch at your own pace. Your guide provides recommendations tailored to your interests, helping you experience the region as a traveler rather than simply a visitor.
This balance between guided discovery and personal exploration makes the experience both enriching and relaxing.
Travel in Comfort, Designed for Small Groups Limiting the group to a maximum of eight guests ensures a more personal and immersive experience. Traveling in a premium Mercedes minivan allows access to smaller roads and wineries often unavailable to larger tours, while encouraging meaningful interaction with your guide and fellow travelers.
Every detail — transportation, winery appointments, and tasting arrangements — is organized in advance so you can focus entirely on enjoying the journey through Alsace’s landscapes and flavors.
Local Expertise and Carefully Curated Experiences Operated by Ophorus, a licensed French tour company specializing in small-group experiences since 2005, this tour reflects years of local relationships and regional expertise. Winery partners are selected not only for the quality of their wines but also for the authenticity of the experience they offer visitors.
Your guide shares stories of regional history, winemaking evolution, and daily life in Alsace, transforming the journey into a deeper cultural experience rather than a simple sightseeing excursion.
An Unforgettable Introduction to Alsace Wines By the end of the day, you will have explored the diversity of Alsace’s vineyards, met passionate producers, and experienced the charm of one of France’s most beautiful regions. Whether you are discovering Alsace wines for the first time or expanding an existing passion, this full-day journey offers a thoughtful and memorable immersion into the spirit of the Wine Route.

Sally P09, Dec 2025The full day wine tour from Colmar was a great opportunity to try different Alsace wines from a range of different wine producers and to see a few of the beautiful towns and countryside outside of Colmar. Our guide Thierry was knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly so the day was also great fun.
5
Christine R18, Nov 2025Alsace was such a surprise for all of us, given our limited knowledge of the area. The day tour organised by Ophorus was OUTSTANDING! Our tour guide, Alain, was incredible. We could not have asked for anything better.
5
5
Daniel D20, Jun 2025The company and the tour guide were EXTREMELY accommodating with our travel delays. During the tour, our guide drove us to an overlook for picture taking and told us about the region. The individual wineries were great to visit, and contrast between different scale operations. I would highly recommend doing one of these tours in the future!

Allan B11, Jan 2025Great tour with Ophorus. Highly recommend to anyone interested in knowing more about the Alsace region of France and it's mostly family owned wineries. We had a lovely day!

Kathleen03, Sep 2024The all day Alsace wine tour was extremely enjoyable. Our guide, Maryam, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The group was six in total, so not too crowded. The guide wore a head microphone during van transport portions of the trip which made it easier to hear her narration. The trip pace was just right - not too slow and not too fast. I highly recommend the guide and this company!

Andrew28, Aug 2024Amelie chose the visits well. We we warmly welcomed and an atmosphere of shared interest and love of wine just made both the learning and enjoyment go so much better. I have been on wine tastings in other regions of France which were interesting but functional - this was the opposite. There was a genuine interest in receiving feedback and a willingness to share. The social dimension - Alsatian spirit and independence, fiercely loyal attention to the local idea of no liquor de triage or manipulation and respect for the old ways. Well worth booking. I may be persuaded to try other Orphorus tours elsewhere.

Pnina Siegler29, Jun 2024Myriam was a knowlegable engaging guide. We went to tgree different wine tastings in charming towns with privately owned small wineries. 100% recommend this tour!

Samantha Carroll28, Jun 2024Fantastic tour, Jeremy was a great guide, funny and knowledgable, the wineries were lovely and the wine fantastic. Would absolutely recommend.
5
Margie Kelley27, Jun 2024We had an amazing day. Thierry was our guide and driver. We felt safe with his driving :-). We stopped at 3 amazing, personable wineries that gave us a great overview of what Alsace has to offer. We stopped at a cooperative winery, a small, woman-owned family winery, and a more high end winery. Thierry was quite knowledgeable about the wines and area and gave us a lot of insights. The towns we went to were so picturesque and we had just the right amount of time to explore before moving on.
All around this was a great tour and Thierry was wonderful and very accommodating.
5
Oxana Buch27, Jun 2024Very knowledgeable and positive guide who told us a lot of interesting facts about wines, Alsace and life in France in general. And wine testing itself was delicious
5
Kat Koehl25, Jun 2024Jerome was an excellent guide and used his sommelier knowledge to take our wine tastings to another level of insight. The day was paced well and each winemaker was unique. Plus seeing the small Alsace villages and countryside was beautiful!

Tracy Cummings30, May 2024Wow-see-wow-sa! What an awesome tour. Myriam is very knowledgeable about wine and perhaps one of the most important parts about wine in Alsace: the incredibly diverse soils of this one-of-a-kind area. We visited three excellent wineries, some famous, some less so, with Myriam driving safely all the way. She took us to the backroads of Haut-Rhin, introducing us to great views of the valley, historical churches, and little villages of Alsace.
At each winery, Myriam made sure we got a terrific example of various wines, even making it possible for us to compare and contrast the same grape from different terroirs. She was intelligent, always interested, gracious, and a marvelous hostess for the day.
I highly recommend this tour. It would be awful to miss it!

DEMI DRISSI10, May 2024We had a lovely day, organised nicely, was a little pricey for our bugget however Therry was an excellent tour guide, very polite, funny, he had great history knowledge about Alsace wine route and regional wines and he made sure that we enjoyed every minute fully. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It is a day that we will always remember with a great smile on our face.
5
Paul05, May 2024Miriam was amazing. We had a full day with her visiting 4 villages and 3 wine estates and
enjoyed it thoroughly. Would recommend highly!
5
Jennifer05, May 2024Wonderful tour! Request Amelie (I hope I am sepelling her name correctly). She is very knowledgeable and passionate about wine and the region. We were so glad that the tour wasn't cancelled because it was just the two of us and in the past other tour companies have canceled if they didn't have a certian number of guests.

Michael03, May 2024Terry was an incredible guide and was so kind, personable, and funny. This tour is an amazing experience!

Ænnika M05, Nov 2023We are happy to have booked the full-day wine tour around Colmar. Our guide Myriam explained everything very well and understandably. She has a very good knowledge of wines and the region. We would book with Ophorus again at any time, but we have one small suggestion for improvement. We would like small snacks like cheese or crackers to accompany the wine tastings, which should be included for the price.
(Original)

Eileen Randman01, Nov 2023Robin was our amazing tour guide! I am so happy that I found Ophorus and this tour. I took a a friend from Strasbourg and she thoroughly loved the tour also. We stopped along the way and saw a quaint village and took photos of the Vosges Mountains. We visited Noelle Bachert a 7th generation winemaker, which was absolutely amazing and so quaint (we bought so much wine:) and then as the sun was setting we visited Domaine GILG 14th generation winemakers and tasted their award winning wines in a tasting room set amidst the buildings of their beautiful winery. I will look forward to another tour with this company in the future.
5
Mitchell Porter10, Oct 2023Myriam was extremely friendly, professional and very warm and fun. She has an extensive knowledge of the region and made our day easy and fun. She was accommodating and happy to move things around to make sure our day was as good as it could be and we learnt just as much about the region as we did about wine. We would highly recommend and even say its a must to do a tour with Myriam if you're in Colmar or the Alsace region.

I have already recommended this wine tour to all my friends planning on visiting Strasbourg in the future

Olivia Smith03, Sep 2023A beautiful day traveling around Alsace! This was the highlight of our trip in large part to our fabulous guide Thierry. A historian with a wealth of knowledge, Thierry was hilarious, engaging, charming, and clearly has a deep love for Alsace and showing it off. I would highly recommend a tour with Thierry to anyone!

634gavinq07, Jun 2023Alsace day trip
A great day with our fabulous guide Myriam who took us to some beautiful areas and wineries. She quickly learnt what wines we liked and tailored the tastings accordingly. She was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The wineries were very generous with the tastings and also very welcoming and friendly.
Highly recommend this day trip.

N/A19, Sep 2022Wow! Great tour and our guide Myriam was well informed and had a microphone connected to blue tooth so everyone could hear in the van. She explained the entire history of the Alsace region and took us to beautiful villages that made me feel I was a character in a real life fairy tale! We were able to break for lunch on our own before our wine tasting. The castle tour was incredible as well. What a day!!!
5
N/A10, Sep 2022Aude was informative and interesting and we learnt a lot about the wines of the area. It was a great day with quality tastings. She went out of her way to please us.

Sandy W.24, May 2022Having taken a few wine tours throughout France, Ophorus Tours are the best. Perhaps a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for! Their guides are extremely knowledgeable, interesting and most enjoyable. You learn a LOT from these experts! The small groups work very well for participants and guides, all are engaged and all questions are answered. We highly recommend Ophorus.

AnacoTom19, Oct 2019Great Introduction to Alsatian Wines
Audre took is to 3 marvelous wineries. Each of the hosts were great ... We learned a lot from each one about their winery, what makes their wines unique, their process for producing fantastic wines and about each of the wines we were drinking. They were very generous with what they poured with two of them offering Grand Crus. While driving us between wineries, Audre described what we were seeing, what to expect at the next winery and insights about Alsatian wine. We had a wonderful time talking with our fellow tasters during the tour. A very delightful day spent learning about Alsatian wines.

by Glenys (New Zealand)14, Oct 2019Our tour guide was Jean-Yves, he was very knowledgeable about the wines and the region. He looked after our small group like we were good friends, he was entertaining and a great guide. The vineyards we visited were great, they are family owned and operated so they are very passionate about the wines they produce and I was happy to purchase the wines I enjoyed. I will take them back to New Zealand and share with my wine friends. Highly recommend this all day tour of Alsace. It's a beautiful region to visit.

cowlibby11, Oct 2019Alsace Wine Tour - so much fun!
We LOVED our day in the Alsace region touring family owned wineries! Not only did we get to try & learn about some wonderful wines, but we got to see some quaint villages & meet some new friends! Our tour guide was very entertaining & knowledgeable, and we didn't want the day to end. I recommend this tour if you have a day in Colmar & really want to enjoy this area.

Q9025KAheatherh04, Oct 2019Lovely day in Alsace!
Highly recommend, great guide, great tour and great fun. Historical vineyards and plenty of time to taste, and explore. For those traveling from the US, a much more relaxed atmosphere, winemakers are the family of the vineyard. You get to see the cellars, touch the barrels, and it’s a much more relaxed place than Napa or Sonoma. Enjoy!
We chose to do this on our second day & it was a great way to really learn about the basics, discover wineries which we wouldn't have been able to go to on our own!
At each winery, we were able to taste almost all the grapes, which was such a plus to understand what kind of wine we preferred.
Our tour guide was extremely friendly and even made a few stops along the wine route where can take photos of the beautiful vinyards.

by Masaya (Japan)13, Jul 2019Our guide showed us 3 villages and all of them were so cute. We had enough time to relax at all the places. The vineyards we visited were exceptional too!
