Stuart 16, Sep 2025 The choice of retailers was excellent. They all had a story to tell, were passionate about their food and wine, and we loved the fact that their products were locally sourced. Our guide was fabulous, this was our third tour with Benoit, and he loves history and sharing his passion.

Charlie 07, Jul 2025 This was our second tour with Benoit. He gave us a very good overview of the history of this tiny town. Even though we’ve been staying here for almost a week, he added a lot to our historical perspective. Benoit took us to three distinct places – one with a lot of wonderful traditional cheeses, the second with traditional duck dishes, and the third a cute little café, where we had an espresso and tasted some of the local sweets made with walnuts. Great tour— just way too short. This could be a much longer tour without any difficulty.

Eileen B 19, Jun 2025 Interesting tour of the Saturday market and tastings of some of the local food- cheese,
wine, foie Gras, walnut cake and pastries.

Bryan L 07, Oct 2024 This walking tour through Sarlat on a market day was fantastic. The food and wine tastings combined with a little history of the region and the town were the perfect combination for an enjoyable morning. Ann is an informed and engaging guide who answered all the questions with a smile and made sure that we understood the answer. I HIGHLY recommend this tour.

Lim Y. 28, Oct 2023 We went on a walking/food tour in Sarlat with a small group and it was absolutely amazing. The organization from the start was easy with responsive staff and good communication. The day itself was even better, our guide, Anne, was knowledgeable and entertaining, we tasted products from local businesses which were delightful. It gave us a really good insight into the area in that short period of time.

Nikki 22, Oct 2022 End of October so only 3 guests on tour made for special experience. Our guide’s English was excellent. We walked the food market from end to end and also explored much of medieval Sarlat, including history and architecture had three tasting opportunities at special shops adjacent to the market. The Saturday market was very crowded as expected, so it made sense to do the tastings in shops, rather than in the market itself, which would have been nearly impossible to do. Highly recommend this experience.

HW M 27, Jun 2019 Delightful intro to gourmet Sarlat

This is our second visit to Sarlat and we still learned much from our charming and knowledgeable guide about the town, markets, and local producers. The stops for tastings of local products ranged from walnut candies, cakes and cookies to a variety of foie gras and sausages. The wine pairings were inspired and we learned to expandable beyond Monbazillac with foie gras. We discovered — and bought! — walnut jam, truffle sausages, several types of foie gras, truffle mustard, walnut mustard... a feast for all the senses. Many thanks Ophorus!

Quick answers

  • Who conducts these Sarlat Gourmet Food tours?

Our Sarlat tours are conducted by one of our in-house licensed guides. They know perfectly the town of Sarlat and will answer any question that you might have - History, Culture & lifestyle. This morning, follow them through the Market on a food tour to taste some of the local produce.
  • How strenuous is this tour?

This tour includes some walking around the medieval town of Sarlat, where you have still a large number of cobblestone streets. The tour lasts 2 hours and there are not many places to have a seat.
  • How many specialities will I taste during this tour?

Depending on your guide, you will taste a number of specialties. Usually, we include tastings of local produce such as bread, cheese, ham or cured meat, foie gras, walnut based products and wine. Some guides have more affinities with local producers that bring their own produce so it might be that you will stop in different stalls.
  • Can I buy some of the produce that we taste?

Yes, of course you can buy directly from the producers or shops where the tastings take place. After the tour, you will aslo have time to stroll and sample from other producers. One important thing to know is that you will need to have some cash with you as not many producers accept credit cards.
