Diane E16, Sep 2025We thoroughly enjoyed both tours. Both Benoit and Lena were knowledgeable and friendly. We could not have asked for more from either of them. Both tours were outstanding !
We would not hesitate to look to Ophorus first for any future trips to France;

Christiane F04, Sep 2025Dear Sir and Madam, back in Germany, we would like to say ‚thank you‘ to our great guide Anne. We had a great tour to Lascaux, many informations and a lot of fun, too. We had a remarkable time together.
Viele Grüße aus Deutschland und à bientôt

Cheryll H02, Jul 2025The accuracy and atmosphere made us feel like we were in the real cave of Lascaux. Very well done with impressive architecture too. Overall we highly recommend visiting this experience.

Virginia30, Jun 2025Seeing the prehistoric art was awe inspiring and thought provoking. Our guide, Ann, was knowledgable and entertaining. She made the day fun! The guides in the 2 caves were excellent. The museum at Les Eyzies is impressive and quite well done. We enjoyed the lunch break which gave us the opportunity to visit with our fellow travelers and a quick walk. The art is the star of this tour but the building at Lascaux IV is also interesting. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.

Sandra24, Jun 2025Our guide was excellent- he was very informative and flexible. When he found out we had already visited Les Ezyies, he took us to other places of interest.
5
Julie S06, Nov 2024It was wonderful. Benoit was deeply knowledgeable about the region and the pre-history. He was also very enjoyable to spend a day with. The Prehistory Museum, together with the Rouffignac cave and Lascaux IV replica, were amazing and awe-inspiring. The Ophorus Tour was a fun, easy and very informative way to see these stellar sites
5
Clara R14, Sep 2024The guide who drove us to Lascaux was great - very knowledgeable and I appreciated that we were able to stop in Les Ezeyes on the way to Lascaux (shame that it was too rainy to explore!). The Lascaux museum itself was incredible.
Appreciate that Ophorus tours have such small groups and professional guides.

Sally Lovejoy07, Oct 2023My tour to the Lascaux caves was wonderful. I am so glad it didn’t get
cancelled as seeing the cave paintings were why I came here. Martin, our
guide, was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about prehistoric man and
took us many places prior to the Lascaux museum to see the land and
understand what was going on here 20,000 years ago. I would not have had
the same experience if I had just taken the museum tour. I was so thankful
2 Australian ladies signed up so I could go.
It was well worth the detour on my trip.

Shelley Burns28, Sep 2023We took the half day tour to Lascaux and it was well worth the price. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. He shared history of the region and of the caves before we got to Lascaux. We even stopped a few times for him to point out significant sites. Lascaux was fascinating. We had a great English speaking guide. Never felt rushed. Couldn’t be more pleased with the entire experience.
5
Leslie Burnham18, Sep 2023We enjoyed the tour very much. Lots of insider information and access from our guide. Recommended!
5
Sharon McCulloch15, Sep 2023What a wonderful day we had, our tour guide Anne, was extremely knowledgeable, fun and spoke great English. It was a small tour which was lovely, even though it was extremely hot, we still had a great day - thank you.

N/A05, Sep 2023De has a great time and warmly recommend our guide Martin
5
Andy10, Jul 2023Our guide Anna was excellent, flexible and tailored the day for us. Started at the museum,
then Roffignac, then Lascaux. All wonderful to see and straight in without waiting. Filled the
times between with great options.
5
Cruiser07, Jul 2023We had a great time visiting the caves and museum. Our tour guide Benoit was full of
information, insights, and open questions. It was a delight to be introduced to what this area
has to offer by him.
5

N/A12, Apr 2023My husband and I greatly enjoyed our tour! There was so much to learn and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. Well worth the money!!
5
Arunabha Mahajan31, Oct 2022It's wonderful trip. May be the trip duration could be little bit more longer than 4 hours to get inside the castle. Our guide Martin is very nice and articulate all the historical details beautifully.
5
N/A20, Oct 2022Fantastic experience made possible by an outstanding local guide who clearly enjoys sharing his pre-history knowledge with English speaking visitors.
5
N/A20, Oct 2022Benoit was an excellent and very personable guide!
5
Eileen M08, Oct 2022The visit to Rouffignac and spending time in the excellent museum at Les Eyzies. I also
appreciated the well-informed orientations by our guide Benoit.
5
N/A23, Sep 2022Martin was an excellent knowledgeable, friendly, informative and helpful guide with a great sense of humor. We covered a lot of ground including the promised three sites but also a number of stops at minor sites for a quick explanation and photo opportunity. We had a wonderful time with the prehistory museum, Rouffingnac cave and Lascaux that were part of the main program of course. But really Martin, our most knowledgeable guide was very helpful.
5
Brist Traveler09, Sep 2022We really appreciated Martin’s extensive, encyclopaedic knowledge about everything historical and wonderful witty asides to lighten things up. We thoroughly enjoyed his introduction to the Historical Museum which placed so many later features into context. During the Rouffignac train ride Martin worked hard to give us an excellent running interpretation of the French guide’s commentary into English for us. His time management of the day’s events was excellent and his off-the-cuff stops at other features of interest was a delight.
5
Nonas04, Sep 2022Great communication with the tour company. Our tour guide was friendly, organized, and
very knowledgeable - and fluent in English. Highly recommend the all day tour in order to
get an understanding of the area.
5
N/A03, Sep 2022Driver Benoit was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and informative. Lascaux IV was well presented. The replica cave and guide were very good. The workshop exhibits gave a greater understanding of how the art was created.
5
Gigi H.21, Jul 2022Our half day English tour including Lascaux IV was fabulous. Our tour guide Maarten was very enthusiastic and knowledgable about the area’s cro-magnon and Neanderthal prehistory. We stopped at several very interesting shelter sites on our way to Lascaux IV. I highly recommend this tour.
5
Jennifer28, Jun 2022Our guide, Martin, was prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. The small size of the group was ideal, and the van very comfortable. Martin's explanations made the Museum of Prehistory so memorable, pointing out many exquisite tools out of huge displays, and really walking us through the different Homo species and timelines. The Grotte du Rouffignac was amazing. Huge, with cave art so pristine it looks like it was done recently. Having an English-speaking guide was essential as the tours are only in French. This cave was the highlight of the trip! During the drive to Lascaux IV, the description of the medieval village of Madeleine really made it come alive. It's hard to envision a multistory village of 1500 without his providing context. Finally, Lascaux IV was a technological marvel and had beautiful cave art, but so so crowded. Not the tour's fault, as it's timed entry from the museum, but a real contrast to the experience at the Grotte du Rouffignac.
5
Roving10, Jun 2022Tour is excellent. The history as well as viewing the replications of the caves and artwork is
breathtaking. Please follow guides advice take no pictures until the end which has many
opportunities.
5
Eloise P07, Jun 2022Dordogne Day Tour : Prehistory and The Art of the Caves from Sarlat
The guide (Benoit) was fabulous!! We’ll versed in human prehistory and the understanding
of the process and willing to share his knowledge so we could learn.
4
Keith R06, Jun 2022First and most important…Benoit (spelling?) was fantastic! He is full of information, willing to chat about things, has a good sense of humor and willing to share his ideas! The four of us in the van enjoyed being with him and always getting an answer plus for our curiosity. The museum is a huge WOW with relics from ancient history and Benoit could describe them completely for us. Lascaux 2 (?) was a phenomenal ride through.
The only down side was the tour through Lascaux 4. Great cave reproduction with a
Tour guide who gave us lots of info. Unfortunately our group-as all- were too big and the showing of the cave walls was difficult to see plus hearing our tour guide was poor
5
N/A02, Jun 2022Maarten was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and very nice to spend time with.
5
Judy M19, May 2022This was a wonderful tour. Our guide, Maartin, was so knowledgeable and yet ready with a joke as well. We stopped at the troglodyte village at St Christophe, the prehistory museum in Les Eyzies, the cave at Rouffignac, and finally Lascaux IV. Maartin explained the history of St Christophe and led us through the museum, pointing out important artifacts along the way. Rouffignac requires a tram ride to see the cave paintings. Our ride was accompanied by a French guide, so Maartin translated for us. At Lascaux, we were handed off to a Lascaux guide who did a great job taking us through the cave.
This tour is a must when you visit the Dordogne area in France. It is pricey, but worth every penny.
5
Kelly M14, May 2022Our guide Martin was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and interesting. Lots of little
known facts and anecdotes. Definitely a must do!
5
Russell14, May 2022Maartin was magnificent. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The trip was
excellent. We learned a lot and had fun. All our questions were answered
5
Karen10, May 2022Martins knowledge of prehistory is extensive, I learned so much. Also manages time very
well which was important given the museum’s schedule.
And he had very good lunch suggestions. A wonderful day!
5
Bruce Durrant08, May 2022Maarten is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about prehistory. It was a treat to have him as our guide.
5
SuzanneK15, Sep 2021Martin was fabulous. We got a great inside commentary of early man. What a treat. He listened to and answered our questions. The two stops before the cave visit were interesting. Great tour through Viator ... as always.
1
Journey04, Sep 2021The guide Martin was excellent, knowledgeable, entertaining, friendly and very helpful. I had traveled out of my way just for this tour and was happily pleased. Sarlat was a very interesting town to visit also. The caves and paintings were wonderful but I think I enjoyed Martins tour of the Museum best of all.
5
Bkingsha15, Oct 2019It truly does amaze you. 20,000 year old cave paintings hidden for centuries are amazing! The level if artistry that prehistoric humans had us very advanced. The sheer volume of paintings is also very impressive. Of course this is a reproduction but very accurate. If we all visited the original cave, we would destroy the art just by breathing. Do not miss this!
5
Bkingsha03, Oct 2019Don't miss this historical site

by Ronald (United Kingdom)02, Jun 2019The professionalism and friendliness of both our driver-guide, Emilien, and guide, Kati, made our Lascaux IV visit a pleasure, despite the crowd-managing and entirely artificial nature of the experience.
